Mount Sinai District-Wide School Safety Plan Update and Information

Posted Date: 8/11/25 (4:02 PM)

Dear Mount Sinai Community,

The Mount Sinai School District remains committed to providing a safe, supportive, and orderly learning environment for every student. In alignment with New York State’s Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, we have updated our comprehensive District-Wide Safety Plan. This plan is now available for public review and comment for a thirty-day period. Feedback may be shared via email with Dr. Peter Branscombe at pbranscombe@mtsinai.k12.ny.us.

Our District-Wide Safety Plan serves as a guide to protecting the health and safety of all staff and students during serious incidents or emergencies. It outlines key prevention, intervention, and crisis response strategies, including procedures for risk reduction, response, and recovery in a variety of potential situations across the district and its three school buildings.

In addition, each school has developed a Building-Wide Safety Plan that aligns with the district-wide protocols. To safeguard our community, the details of these plans remain confidential. Each building has trained personnel ready to act swiftly and effectively in the event of an emergency.

A dedicated District-Wide Safety Team meets regularly to assess potential risks, recommend preventative measures, and update the plan annually. We maintain strong partnerships with local government agencies and first responders to ensure a coordinated response should an emergency occur. If a crisis arises during the school day, our priority will be to keep students secure on campus and provide clear, consistent communication to families.

We encourage families to make sure their child’s school has current contact information to reach you or your designated emergency contact quickly. If you have questions about safety procedures at your child’s school, please contact your building principal.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work together to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all members of our school community.

Sincerely,

Christine Criscione, Ed.D.
